Ok! so, it’s pretty late already march. This particular blog post is going to be the one that is close to my heart.
I have been waiting to write about this place for almost two years now as it was going through some renovation and what a facelift it has got. So, I did not have pictures to do the complete story. Oh! but wait what place is it?
Mahatma Phule Mandai (market) as it looks upon Poo-nah become Po-nay. An over a century old structure that lies in the heart of Pune city.
The structure itself has an old world gothic charm to it. Built by the British it was initially called as The Reay Market named after the then governor of Bombay, Lord Reay.
The mammoth structure carved in stone and wood has, eight sides and eight ways for entry and exit.
I am a big time foodie and this is a food lovers paradise. I could spend hours here going through the fresh produce it offers. It basically functions as a vegetable and fruit market.
Its a delight for photographers, because the play of light is very interesting here. One can experiment a lot with a prime lens to get the perfect depth of field. People are photographer friendly and thus gives a wide chance to click portraits and street photography.
There is more activity over the weekend in the market and the best time to visit is early morning as soon as the hustle bustle starts.
To the glory of this place!
